Instagram has become one of the most prolific and most used social media platforms in recent years. While it has evolved and changed over time, the main intention has stayed the same. Sharing images.
Instagram is used by people of all walks of life, like artists, musicians, celebrities, etc.
Celebrities make up the majority of Instagram’s most followed profiles. While some celebrities may have accounts and high follower counts, they may not post frequently, or are run by a social media manager rather than the actual person themselves.
A great example of a celebrity who manages their own account and posts consistent quality content is Dwayne ” The Rock” Johnson.
Johnson has over 118 million followers on Instagram and nearly 4,000 posts.

While many pre-existing celebrities have made successful Instagram profiles over the years, the concept of “Insta-fame” has rose to prominence. Now Instagram users without pre-existing fame, who post interesting and captivating content to the profile are gaining high follower counts and even celebrity status.
One account that I discovered, which is quickly growing, is The Brothers Buoy.

This profile is run by two brothers and New Yorkers, Graham and Jackson Buoy, food bloggers/influencers who support small brands and new restaurants mostly from NYC.

These brothers started just by sharing photos of food and
their opinions, and now their follower count has grown to over 11 thousand.
But at it’s core, Instagram is less about influencing and marketing, and more about sharing.
One of my favorite visual artists on Instagram is a user named Liam Wong, a photographer who has been featured by Adobe, CNN, Smithsonian, and Forbes 30 under 30.
Wong produces eccentric and colorful photographs that depict Tokyo’s neon nightlife, that get shared all across the internet.
Liam Wong isn’t just known for his beautiful photographs that he shares online, but he is also the youngest art director at the incredibly popular video game studio Ubisoft.
Here is some of Liam Wong’s work:
